Adult Karate · Every Class Taught by Sensei Avi

An experience that transcends the physical.

Direct lineage to the founders of karate means we teach the "why" and "how" beneath every technique — the subtleties that allow unlimited development for each practitioner, according to their unique abilities.

The Transmission

Principles, not just the outside form.

At Rokah Karate we pride ourselves on our direct lineage to the founders of karate. That direct transmission is what enables us to teach the underlying principles of the art, rather than merely copying the shape of a technique.

Karate here is self-defense that relies on skill rather than size or strength. It teaches you to maximize efficiency in every technique — and to apply techniques with perfect timing and distance, never conflicting with an opponent’s power but using it to your advantage.

The Body

You don't get in shape to start. You start, and it builds you.

Karate is a complete workout — but no one needs to be “in shape” to begin. Students gradually develop every dimension of fitness as they progress: cardiovascular endurance, strength, agility, flexibility, balance, speed, reaction, and coordination.

Students learn to listen to the principles and apply them to their own bodies — competing only with themselves, day by day. Posture improves as correct neuromuscular movement patterns take hold: moving from the ground up and from the center out, movement that stabilizes and protects the spine and joints. And beyond the workout, karate is simply fun and interesting — a journey of lifelong learning.

The Mind

Karate is a moving meditation.

Intention and breath initiate every action. The mind engages fully in the moment rather than making its own “noise” — and personal stress releases. Facing a partner gives immediate feedback the instant the mind strays.

"The mind should be nowhere in particular, but everywhere it needs to be."
— A famous Samurai teaching

Ichigo ichie — every moment, only once — is a motto central to Shotokan karate. In our practice it means strong spirit: putting your all into every single movement. That spirit and focus, once trained, applies to every area of life.

The Dojo

A community where it's never too late to start.

Our dojo is a safe, friendly environment full of remarkable people. Anyone can join — the only requirements are a positive attitude and an open mind. Karate can be enjoyed at any age, and every adult class is taught personally by Sensei Avi.
